Hiking in the Taubergießen nature reserve
Wild romance on the Rhine
Distance: approx. 9km
One of the last paradises in Europe where the original biodiversity has been preserved.
Declared a nature reserve in 1979, the Taubergießen is one of the largest protected areas in Baden-Württemberg, covering approximately 1,682 hectares. The name "Taubergießen" comes from a watercourse in the north of the area. "Gießen" refers to flowing waters fed by groundwater; "taub" refers to nutrient-poor waters with low fish populations.
The close connection between forests, meadows, and waterways offers enormous biodiversity – even rare orchids thrive here. The Taubergießen is a very popular destination for hikers and cyclists, who can explore nature on signposted circular trails.
As an alternative to hiking or biking through the Taubergießen, boat tours, known as punting trips, are offered. In traditional fishing boats, you can marvel at the flora and fauna under expert guidance.
